Q I am having a home built and have asked our builder about pre-wiring for my television viewing area and it sounds pretty expensive. In all honesty, it seems unusually high for what I want. What do you recommend?

A If you have had any change orders or have requested any custom work for your home, you know that these things sometimes cost more than they might if they were included in the original package. The reasons for this vary but generally the added paper work and communications with the various Subcontractors take additional time that has a higher cost factor.

You could request a Subcontractor of your choice come in to do the job. If you haven't closed on the house there is generally paper work to be submitted by the Subcontractor to the General Contractor to become approved to do the work. The issue for the General Contractor (if you haven't closed on the house) is that the house is still technically property of the Builder and they want to insure that the work is done right. There are certain liability issues that need to be addressed.

To answer your question, I would say that Axxis Audio should be tops on your list of companies to call to get a quote for the work you want done. From there you can work out the details with your Builder. If we need to become an approved Subcontractor for your builder, we can do that.

Q We had our home pre-wired by our Builder and are now ready to have speakers put in. Does Axxis Audio carry the types of speakers we need?

A Yes, we have a variety of in wall speakers, in ceiling speakers, stand alone speakers, and outdoor speakers. We also have a variety of CCTV, intercom, and projection system components available to complete your Home Entertainment System. We carry the miscellaneous items that you could need as you move towards finishing your system. If you are planning on installing the equipment yourself we can provide you with some pointers. Q We are planning a TV room with a Dolby Pro Logic receiver with 2 front speakers, center speaker, 2 rear speakers, and a subwoofer. We also plan to have Web TV and would like to run speakers to the rest of the house and to our deck. Do you carry any type of wall plate assembly that will allow us to plug in everything at a central location? We would like some upscale speaker wire also.

A Yes, we can design any type of interface that you could possibly want. These wall plates can go behind your entertainment center and will allow you to plug in everything you have described and more if desired. As far as wire, we carry everything from basic commercial wire to THX certified products.

Q We had our home built several years ago and did not think that we would ever get into this surround sound thing for television. Now we have wires all over the place. The system sounds great but the wires are laying around all over the place. Is there any way to eliminate the mess of wire?

A In many instances it is possible to get above the ceiling or into a crawl space to run the wires. If after we look at your home we find that we cannot, there are other options we can discuss.
